Rotosound Strings - Hughes & Kettner Amplification - Fret King Guitars - endorse Michael Smitham......
Some of you may have noticed on other artists web sites, that 'Bob Jackson's Badfinger' will be appearing on the "All Stars 60's Tour" later this year, along with Brian Poole, Chip Hawkes and Dave Munden of The Tremeloes (backed by The Pacemakers) Ray Ennis's Blue Jeans, and another act yet to be announced. Bob will be ably backed by his own version of Badfinger and does so with our blessing!
Go and see what will I think, be a great tour!
Over the years, we have played in theatres and clubs all over the world and almost always, we have to dash off after the show having had snatched and limited conversations at the bar with friends and fans alike.
So........we thought we’d attempt something new!
As you can see from the picture (click picture) we are planning a 'Fortunes Weekender' in sunny Blackpool! We will also be staying at the hotel and will be spending some quality time with everyone 'up close and personal'! The price per person £65 per night will include hotel - breakfast - three course buffet dinner - entertainment and of course......us! We have our very good friend Dave Berry and The Fabulous ' Dakotas' lined up, plus a very special guest in 'Gemma Mooney' (Our Eddie's lovely daughter!) We have plans for a 'Question and Answer' session where you can ask (within reason!) anything you like. A quiz with prizes and maybe one or two surprises too!!
This is a new concept for us folks and we will do our best to make it a very special occasion for all concerned, but it will only work if you will commit to it and buy a ticket! We would ask that you send a cheque for £50 as a pledge/deposit to secure your place, or make a payment via PayPal, (info on number or email address below) We will not cash the cheques unless we have the numbers of people to make it work, and if not enough people are interested, we will cancel the hotel and refund any monies owed.
It would be a great weekend which can only work if you want it to!

Some terrible news to start off 2015. Trevor Ward-Davies, commonly known as 'Dozy' of 'Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich' has just passed away at the age of 70 after a very short illness. The Fortunes worked with the guys over many decades and 'Dozy' was not only a consummate professional, he was also a very quiet and gentle man.
Our sincere condolences go out to his family, his friends and of course to his band mates...........
Here's wishing you all a very Happy Christmas and a Peaceful and Healthy New Year! We'd like to thank all who came to see us on the 60's Gold Tour' and on our own shows throughout 2014. We look forward to seeing you again in 2015!
A big thank you to our fabulous Road Crew, without whom we wouldn't be able to do what we do! A huge thanks also, to David Coleman, who has worked tirelessly on our 'Past & Present' shows throughout some very trying personal times. Thanks David!
We hope you come and see us in the coming year, at what is becoming a very popular show....
Merry Christmas! xxx
The Fortunes in Scandinavia
The Fortunes are very happy to announce that they have just signed a contract with Howie and Karina at 'G Entertainments' for work for the band in Scandinavia! We look forward to meeting them both and performing at shows over there sometime in the not too distant future..........
Press release The Fortunes and The Brook
It is with regret that The Fortunes “Past and Present” show has been postponed. This is due to unforeseen technical problems, the show which was scheduled for Friday the 30th May 2014. On a positive note the show has been rescheduled for Friday 30th December, should you have purchased tickets these will remain valid for the December show. Both The Brook and The Fortunes would like to take this opportunity to apologise for any inconvenience. Please contact the Brook with reference to tickets purchased in advance.
David Coleman for and on behalf of The Fortunes
We've done quite a few 'Past and Present' shows in recent months, and even though we say it ourselves, it has all gone very well! When we decided to try booking our own theatre shows, we knew it was a big gamble because The Fortunes didn't have the same amount of hits as say, The Searchers, or The Tremeloes. But we have been very pleasantly surprised at the turn out, and more importantly, the reaction! The audience seem to really enjoy the stories and anecdotes, and they tell us at the 'meet and greet' that it's great that the entire band get to talk to them! Glenn said it was the first time in his entire career that he has had the chance to say hello from the front of the stage and talk about his musical 'past'!
Speaking of 'Past and Present', we have an old friend and new ally, in David Coleman, who has (thankfully) taken the mantle from me, and is now in full control of placing 'Past and Present' in theatres all across the UK. David is very skilled and practised in theatre promotion and the effects can already be seen on the tour dates page! David can be contacted through the 'Past and Present' page here on the web site or on this email link.
On a personal level, I would like to thank the good folk at Rotosound for the string endorsement, and JHS for the endorsements with Fret King and Hughes and Kettner! It's a long time since I used a valve amp and can truly say, I wish I'd tried one sooner. Am now definitely thinking about asking Gavin Coulson at JHS about getting another 'Switchblade 50' and going 'stereo'!
Some good news for a change! The dates are in for 'The 60's Gold Tour 2014' and there's some nice surprises in the shape of some of our favourite theatres. The London Palladium, The Sage in Gateshead, and possibly my favourite, Symphony Hall in Birmingham! Really looking forward to forty dates with some really nice people in Gerry and The Pacemakers, The Searchers, P.J. Proby, and Brian Poole and Chip Hawkes........(dates here)
So sad to say that our old friend Michael Robinson, passed away quite suddenly on February 10th. Michael was the inspiration. and writer of most of the songs on our 'Heros Never Die' CD, recorded in Holland just a few short years ago. A lovely, kind, and very talented man, who could hold and transfix an audience with just a guitar and his wonderful voice. I personally have had some fabulous times with Mike and his family at his lovely home in Utrecht, and had the great pleasure to work with him on a recording project, also in Holland. Mike also came to my home in Coventry and sang to us around the BBQ till the drink ran out!
Mike, you will be missed by all who knew you. Our heartfelt condolences go out to Lisa and Mel and all his family..... Goodbye old friend.
Well, the Christmas and New year festivities are now over and it's time to get back to work! January is relatively quiet for The Fortunes, apart from a couple of shows on The isle of Wight, and a double show at Butlins in Minehead. This leaves us time to get together to ready ourselves for the upcoming 'Past and Present' shows during Feb/March/April. Looking forward to seeing lots of friendly faces filling the theatres!
Just 48 hours and it will be Christmas Day! The Fortunes hope that you all have a happy and joy filled Christmas, and a very healthy and prosperous New Year! We can't thank you enough for all the support you have given, both at our shows, and on our Facebook page. Big shout to our good friends Stewart (Mac) McPherson and Ingo Franke for keeping the flame alight in Facebook Land!
It's been a very good year for The Fortunes and we have made many new friends along the way. It was of course, a great pleasure to be part of '60's Gold 50th Anniversary' and brilliant to meet up with all the guys on the tour! Lots of laughs and we take away many fond memories! We hope we can all meet up again next year.........
We now look forward to our upcoming 'Past and Present' two hour shows, which start on feb 1st at The Garrick Theatre in Lichfield. As soon as we get back from our New Years Eve show in Jersey, we plan to meet to discuss how we can improve the show. We all have lots of fresh ideas to try at rehearsals, and please look out for the inclusion of some interesting 'media' during the performances!!
Once again, MANY thanks for all your messages and emails. We really do appreciate you taking the time to contact us, both here and on our Facebook page. Have a lovely Christmas and we look forward to seeing you in the new year....... xxx
Just heard the very sad news that long time drummer for The Searchers, Billy Adamson (1969 / 1988) has recently passed away. The Fortunes played in many venues around the world with The Searchers over the decades, and Billy was always a true professional and a fun guy to be around. Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.......
Here's a clip of an interview, sent to me by the '60's Gold Tour' organiser, Robert Pratt. It relates to a 'Magic Radio' competition winner who got to see the show, and meet and greet the artists at 'The Sage' in Gateshead. The DJ called the winner the morning after the show ...... Two weeks in to The 60's Gold Tour and the miles are piling up! Packed houses everywhere we go and nothing but positive reactions at the 'meet and greet' after the shows. If anyone can't get to the shows, but would like a DVD of The Fortunes live with The Lou Roman Orchestra, on stage, and in the studio, please email here or follow this link to see more!
On Saturday the 20th July, we are at The Leeds City Varieties in a show named 'Platinum Hit-Makers' with Tony Burrows & White Plains and the fabulous hit-makers Paperlace! Phil Wright the original drummer contacted us and we are trying out a brand new '60's and '70's evening. Lots and lots of hits from two great decades, so dig out your flares and your platforms, come with us.......back to the age of the million sellers!!
On Thursday the 20th June, The Fortunes are going to dinner! We have been invited a day earlier than our show, to a wonderful castle (here) nestling in the verdant countryside near the town of Maaseik in Belgium. Our good friend Gery Vanrompaey has put a couple of shows together at The Cultureel Centrum in Leopoldsburg and Friday sees The Fortunes plus The Equals and Ohio Express sharing the stage. Saturday's evening sees Herman´s Hermits, The Troggs, New Amen Corner and Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich, Love Affair and The Swinging Blue Jeans rocking it up!!
Don't forget our next 'Past and Present' show is on this coming Sat 22nd June at The Regal in Tenbury Wells! See here for tickets!
Please don't forget the tribute to Bob's old friend and band mate, Pete Ham of Badfinger on Saturday 27th April in Swansea. There will be an unveiling of a blue plaque at 4.30pm at Swansea Railway station. This will be followed by a live concert organised by Bob, including special guests, Iveys originals Ron Griffiths and David Jenkins. Please see here for details....
Over three days in January, The Fortunes appeared with Bart Kaëll, Luc Appermont, Lily Castel, and the fabulous Lou Roman "Golden Memories Orchestra" in the 2500 seat theatre at The Kursaal Casino in Ostende. The audience were bussed in from all over Belgium and Holland and practically every seat was taken for all three concerts! It was fantastic being part of such a lavish production and although purely promotional we thoroughly enjoyed the experience!
